Spring Winder

Postby skogur » Mon Mar 09, 2015 11:03 am

Hello,
I am hoping that someone out there is able to help with this. I have just made a copy of Joe's springwinder (wonderful thing). However the chuck I have is too big to fit the smaller sleeves. At present I have a spring with a 5mm arbor and the sleeve is 1 1/4" or so. Does anyone know where I could get a chuck that could handle this.
Many thanks,
Sherry

Hi Sherry,
the easiest way around your problem would be to use a pin vice, mount that in the jaws of your winder chuck and then the arbor will go into the pin vice and also the pin vice head being smaller will allow the sleeve to fit over it. Just make sure you do it up nice and tight.
Paul.
