Substituting replacement parts

Postby jdp020351 » Sun Aug 01, 2010 4:23 pm

Hello Group:
Just a thought about substituting parts, ie. balance springs or main springs. If an original part is not available, can you substitute a
replacement part from another brand of watch.
Are there reference books available that lists acceptable replacements?

Thanks
Jerry

Hi Jerry,
Yes, you can often interchange parts from other calibers. The books to use would be the Bestfit #111 part 1 & 2 catalogs. Reprints are available from some supply houses such as ofrei.com and twincity. They are a "Must Have" if you plan to work on mechanical wrist watches.
Hope this helps Jerry

Hi all,
Just wanted to mention that McCaw at mccawcompany.com has a special going on right now for the MatSys Online material system -life time membership- and is also throwing in one set of BestFit books. Seems like a good deal.
