Work Space Question

Postby Clock King » Mon Feb 01, 2021 6:16 am

Good Morning everyone!
This is my first time on this forum, thank you for adding me. I am in the process of setting up my work space and was wondering what magnifying strength is the best for our work lamps? I’ve seen 5X and 10X

Welcome to the forum Clock King!

Personally I wouldn’t go any stronger than 5X for
use with average sized clocks. That should get you in close enough for most clock work. For closer inspection like pivot or pallet finishes I usually use a 7X to 10x watchmakers loupe.
I haven’t used one much so just coming from my limited experience.
Maybe someone else can add to this.
Hope it’s helpful,

Howard

Hi clock king
I found an LED magnifying light on a flexible shaft it has a magnifying glass in the middle X 5 and it’s 3” across with the lights around it and I find it perfect because I can see the whole movement, but for very close up work I use a X7-10 loope.
