Question on a Seth Thomas clock

Postby Dmario1 » Sun Mar 08, 2020 10:32 am

Brand new member here.

I have what I think may be a quick question.

I have a Seth Thomas clock that was in my father-in-laws collection. Every time you try to wind it, the main spring just releases and does not wind. So, I found the reason is because the catch mechanism on the mainspring gear is missing along with the mounting pin.

I have an extra ratchet mechanism. Do I need to fabricate a new pin for mounting or can it be purchased?

Please forgive me if I do not have the correct terminology for the parts, but I am just starting out and this is the first clock I have opened.

Thank you,
Dave

What you are describing is referred to as a click. They are normally sold as a set, click and rivet. Check out the link below for a source. There are several more out there. Just be sure to read up on how to properly install a click. You have to leave a small gap to allow it to rotate. Good luck.
