Elgin 12s

Replaced the balance staff on an Elgin 12size 23 .jewel pocket watch. Beat set and keeps great time dial up and dial down. It gains 2 minutes an hour pendant up. Any ideas. TIA.

I would suggest checking for a cracked balance jewel. It could be causing "drag" in that position, reducing the amplitude and causing the watch to gain.
I would also check the staff under a strong loupe, to insure that one of the pivots didn't get bent when you replaced/reassembled the balance. That can cause a similar condition.

Best of luck !

Thank you Randy, Jewels were replaced but that doesn’t mean one could have cracked, will inspect everything when I get the watch back. Just something new that I never dealt with yet.
