Arbors wired in place

Postby Marvhunt » Sun Jan 13, 2019 2:26 pm

I'm an absolute newbie. I've been learning on Gilbert eight-day movements. Why are some arbors wrapped spring wire?

Many thanks for the clarification!

Hello Marvhunt,
Those wires are used as springs to pull levers down for dropping into slots or to move quickly and firmly down to intercept pins etc.
You can purchase new spring wire from suppliers like Timesavers and others. Bob shows them in action in some of his clock videos and animation.
Best,
Dan
