Bushing thickness question?

Postby JohnClu » Mon Oct 01, 2018 5:38 pm

Can there be any thickness difference between a replacement bushing and the plate it is going in? John

It is always best to make the bushing same thickness as the plate it is being pressed into. If it is too narrow then pivot will not have intended surface area to run on. If too thick then a process called tunneling can occur. Pivot wear will always take place over time and normally takes place along one side but the entire length of the pivot hole. Tunneling is the when the pivot hole wear does not run through the entire length of the hole leaving a wall of sorts at the end of the pivot.
I hope this explanation isn't too confusing. If it is please let me know and I will try to reword it better.
