What does Fusee mean?

Postby rayberry » Fri Apr 20, 2018 4:02 am

I often see the word Fusee in ads and sales of clocks. Can anyone tell me what fusee means when describing a clock.

Thanks

Interesting question...

Google gave me the Wikipedia (although you can not trust it sometimes) definition which in this case is correct:

"Used in antique spring-powered mechanical watches and clocks, a fusee is a cone-shaped pulley with a helical groove around it, wound with a cord or chain which is attached to the mainspring barrel."

I have also seen a modern clock that is Fusee...
