Waltham 37 mainspring installation

Postby karlkonnerth » Tue May 30, 2017 11:15 am

I am cleaning a Waltham size 37 car clock. The mainsprings seem to be in fairly good shape so I would like to reuse them since they are hard to get. However, I don't find any mainspring winders that are for this big a barrel (about 18mm) except in the Bergeon $1000 + sets. Any other ideas? Thanks.

how did you get them out? not sure exactly what you have going on there but I have used zip ties with small sized clock mainsprings. Depends on how it all goes together but sometimes winding it while tightening a zip tie can get it secured for the fit into the barrel, it can be a trick...
Have a great day, William
