Hand nut problem

Postby estanek70 » Mon Dec 19, 2011 8:13 am

I am trying to work on a Black Forest coo coo clock and am having trouble un screwing the hand nut. I can see threads beneath the nut so it seems it should unscrew but so far I have had no luck. I am afraid to use too much force and do damage to the movement. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks, Ed Stanek

Hello Ed,
I have encountered the same problem many times with cuckoos. They should be hand tight only but people seem to over do it. I put a small dab of watch oil on the thread and after waiting several minutes I then use a small plier and give it a hefty twist. I have not broken one yet. Of course there is always tomorrow.
Best of luck Ed and a good holiday season to you.
