1894 Elgin 18 73 Grade Pocket Watch

Postby wingman » Mon Nov 07, 2011 10:29 am

I've had some interesting times with the watch and this might be of interest to others. I cleaned and lubricated the watch also replaced the main spring. The watch would run, however if the watch was placed on its back it stopped after a short period of time. If the watch was placed on its face it ran fine but gained about 10 minutes in about 8 hours. I started experimenting with the hairspring stud depth in the balance cock. I found if I put the hairspring stud further into the balance cock it changed position of the hairspring enough to correct the problem. The watch is now running in all positions and regulating quite well.
